Animal Evolution
By Lunara Moon
Mother once told me of a time when animals and humans lived in harmony with each other. A time when humans kept animals such as cats, dogs, lizards and others as pets in their own households. Theses days this is not the case. Humans are now hunted by monsters that were once animals. Our world is full of danger and sadness, all created by the monsters that now roam our countries.
Father was killed a year ago by a sorrel monster, I have been told that they were once birds called eagles, that roared high above mountains calling out a wondrous calls. Now my older brother is part of the Gunning organization. The Gunning organization is a group of people who go out and try to hunt and kill the monsters that terrorize us. Every day he leaves early and each night he comes home late at night. He is always talking about getting revenge on a sorrel monster for killing father, he also says that those particular monsters are really rare to see around here.
Humans around the world are scared to go out alone, sacred to even leave the comfort of their own house. But life goes on. People find ways to traveling in groups because they are less likely to be attacked, and only know they are safe when they enter some sort of building. The highest paying job theses day are builders and patrollers. These jobs are the most dangerous because they are always out in the open while building or patrolling. Everyone fears these jobs but there are a few that have the courage to do them, always carrying heavy guns with them. They are usually part of the Gunning organization.
Although many people are scared of theses monsters that hunt us, I cant help but feel that we are the sole cause of their evil. It was our fault in the first place to cause them harm and kill them. Somehow I feel that we deserve it, some of us that is.

Monica! Come get your breakfast, the school group will be here soon. Mother called from the kitchen.
Coming I answered form my room.
I packed my school bag and hurried to the kitchen, grabbing my small share of food on the table. Food is hard to come by theses days, supplies come from special huge buildings where food and such is grown and produced. Then they are shipped to the shops in different communities. There is always just enough food to keep the family going till the next shipment.
Did David already leave mother? I asked as a eat my porridge.
Yes, Gunz came to pick him up at 6 she answered. Gunz is what people call the Gunning Organization for short. Sometimes I hear people calling it G.O. for short at school.
Theyre here! Hurry hurry mother was looking at the window at the oncoming group.
As I opened the door to the house I too saw the large group of people. The school group was a group of people who helped protect and walk kids to the nearest school in the community. There were always Gunz members and patrollers in the group ready for action if a monster were to show up out of nowhere. Mothers were always sacred that they might not see their kid again when they went off to school but they knew it was law for them to go.
I kissed mother in the cheek and giving her a big hug before I went off with two patrollers at my side to join the group. I met up with Lora, my best friend as we continued to walk toward the center of the community.
Did you hear?! There was a sorrel sighting late last night at the edge of town! Lora said as we entered the school. We always had to keep quiet while outside.
Really! Who saw it!? I asked hoping they my brother hadnt heard.
My dad and a few men in his group who were patrolling the outskirts of the community. Lora answered, Dad said it was horribly big but didnt seem to be interested in coming over the border of the community
I hope David doesnt go after it
I am sure he will be okay. G.O. members are always traveling in groups
I know. Lets get to class we started off to our class room
The school was big and was one of three schools in the community. Each familys children went to the closest school to their own homes. This particular school was called Freedom school, while the others were Wisdom and Future. Students were taught in one class each day while the teachers went from class to class. There was one washroom in each class so students did not leave the class at all each day. Lunch was even served directly to each class. The leader of the community had made sure that all children would be safe no matter where they were. School started at 9am and ended at 3pm.
As the last class of the day came to an end, Lora and I backed up thinking of the presentation that had just been shown to the class. The presentation had been on the way the monsters had come to be. It showed old pictures of people with cats and dogs even horses all leaving happily together. The presentation made me want to help the animals, monsters, maybe to show them that there were people that understood them. I wanted to also somehow show them that there were good people that didnt want to hurt them.
The walk home was quiet as usual and once I reached home I went straight to my room. Mother was in the kitchen starting to prepare the dinner. She always took a long time and that is why she always started early. She always tried to come up with some new way to present the food, even if it was only for two people. David never came home to much later and usually eat with his Gunz friends.
Looking over the assignment we needed to do for English the next day, I couldnt help thinking of the animals and about some way one could communicate with them. They really needed to be told that someone was there and wanted to make peace with them. She new of the A.E. the Animal Evolution group that wanted to make peace with the animals. Many people thought they were crazy but she couldnt help think they maybe were not as crazy as some people thought. Although she still felt some anger that they had killed her father for no reason. He had been a builder but had never wanted to join the Gunz.
Suddenly she heard a loud screech that filled the air. Looking quickly out the window she saw flying high in the evening sky a giant sorrel monster. At first she stared in fascination but then fear flooded through her body. Quickly she ran out of her room to find her mom.
MOTHER! she yelled there is a sorrel outside!
Its okay it wont harm us while we are in our house I know her mother was trying to keep calm but fear showed in her eyes.
David was still out there somewhere and we both knew he would be after the giant monster that was now hovering over the community.
